Market
Conditions
Another year has come and gone. Let’s all hope 2012 will bring more business than the previous three or four. Maybe if we can get through the foreclosures and short sales we will see our permits increase on the new home construction side of things.
SPF Lumber:
Western Spruce sales have been sporadic and prices continue to drift lower. Without any increased business from the China market prices should remain flat for the next few weeks.
Eastern Spruce printed down for the week.
SYP Lumber:
We have seen the bottom and mills are enjoying possibly the best week of the year. Buyers are taking advantage of historically low prices. Inventory levels at the mills are low causing prices to rise.
SYP Plywood:
Plywood prices have been low but by midweek were showing some signs of life. This market will probably continue to print up for the next few weeks.
OSB:
The OSB market seems to be getting very interesting as we enter years end. Producers have reduced their production down to record lows. Most producers have recorded a loss in the 3rd quarter, so it seems unlikely they will be willing to ramp up production any time soon. Expect to see shortages as we approach the new year.
